Hello,
Our Dorset pairing from the 2001 election have now moved to Bath. I have tried to upload the correspondence detailing our vote swaps from 2001, but the messageboard attachment facility is currently inoperative. I can forward the correspondence to prospective pairs, if you drop me a line - glenn.oliver@btinternet.com As stated in the title of this thread, 4 Lib Dems are seeking suitable Labour pairs, and our target is Oliver Letwin's seat. We would like to swap all four of our tactical votes for Labour in Burton (East Staffordshire) with four equivalent tactical votes for the Lib Dems in Dorset West. I will check back here most days until we have arranged pairs. Regards, Glenn Oliver This post has been edited by Glenn_Oliver: Apr 11 2005, 09:24 PM |

CODE Dorset West 2005 Name Party Votes % +/- % Oliver Letwin Conservative 24,763 46.5 +1.9 Justine McGuinness Liberal Democrat 22,302 41.9 +0.1 Dave Roberts Labour 4,124 7.7 -5.9 Linda Guest UK Independence Party 1,084 2.0 +2.0 Susan Greene Green 952 1.8 +1.8 Majority 2,461 4.6 Turnout 53,225 76.3 +6.8 The figures for Burton (East Staffs) are now on the BBC website, and it is a Labour hold, assisted, as promised, by our 4 tactical votes for the Labour candidate. CODE Burton 2005 Name Party Votes % +/- % Janet Dean Labour 19,701 41.1 -7.9 Adrian Pepper Conservative 18,280 38.2 -0.4 Sandra Johnson Liberal Democrat 6,236 13.0 +3.4 Julie Russell British National Party 1,840 3.8 +3.8 Philip Lancaster UK Independence Party 913 1.9 -0.2 Brian Buxton Veritas 912 1.9 +1.9 Majority 1,421 3.0 Turnout 47,882 61.0 -0.7 This is the second election in which we have paired votes in Dorset West and the second election in which the Labour voters of Dorset West have not reciprocated in sufficient numbers. So now you once again have Oliver Letwin representing you in Parliament. Well done. Enjoy. Labour look like getting another massive majority, this time on a pitiful 36% of the vote and less than 25% of the total electorate. So, of course, they will perpetuate the rigged electoral system. We will look for somewhere more reliable than Dorset West with which to pair our votes in the 2009 election, since we will still have to pursue tactical voting possibilities in our bizarre banana republic. Or maybe we will ingest some anti-emetics and vote Tory in Burton, on the off-chance we might assist the election of a hung Parliament in which we could then force the instatement of a decent and fair democracy in Britain.
